BSc agriculture in Tamil Nadu is a full-time 4 years (eight semesters) undergraduate course provided by Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) affiliated with Madras University. There are more than 18 constituent colleges (college and institution established and maintained by TNAU) and 29 affiliated colleges under the umbrella of TNAU that provides BSc (Hons) Agriculture and BSc (Hons) Horticulture courses in Tamil Nadu. TNAU has been ranked number one by the Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR), an autonomous body that coordinates and oversees agricultural education and research in India.

BSc agriculture admission 2022 in Tamil Nadu

BSc agriculture admission 2022 in Tamil Nadu’s constituent and affiliated colleges is done through Tamil Nadu Agriculture Entrance Test (counselling session) conducted by TNAU. Nearly sixty-five percent of seats in the affiliated colleges are filled in through the counselling session while the rest of the thirty-five percent seats are filled in through the management quota of the respective college. However, in the case of minority institutions, fifty percent of seats are filled in through TNAU counselling sessions and the rest of fifty percent seats are filled in through the management quota of that respective college. In both cases, whether seeking admission through TNAU’s online session or the management quota, applicants must have applied through TNAU’s online admission process.

Mode of selection for BSc agriculture course

Candidates are selected on the basis of their performance at the counselling session. Candidates can choose the course and the college of their choice based on their ranking at the counselling session.

Eligibility criteria for BSc agriculture admission 2022 in Tamil Nadu

The applicant needs to satisfy the following eligibility criteria in order to take admission to the university/college of Tamil Nadu

  • Educational Qualification: Candidates must have passed the qualifying 10+2 exam from a recognised board in Tamil Nadu. Candidates who have passed HSC (Higher Secondary Exam) under vocational stream exam from boards outside the state are not eligible for admission to any of the University of Tamil Nadu. Candidates who have completed their HSC under the vocational stream are ineligible for both the management and counselling quotas of TNAU affiliated colleges.
  • Minimum qualifying marks: All candidates in the general category need to secure a minimum of 55% in HSC (qualifying exam) while candidates belonging to SC/ST/SCA needs only 35% or just pass in HSC exam with four required subjects. Most backward needs 45% aggregate while candidates belonging to backward class and backward class Muslim students need 50% aggregate of all the four required subjects.
  • The number of attempts: The maximum number of permissible attempts to pass in last qualifying exam for SC/ST/SCA students is three while for other category students it is two.
  • Age limits: The candidate should be younger than 21 years of age at the time of admission i.e. in the month of July. However, for SC/ST/SCA there are no such age restrictions. For candidates with disabilities, 5 years of age relaxation is given.
  • Nativity: Only residents of Tamil Nadu will be considered for the general counselling session. However, candidates who have passed their 10th, 11th and 12th-grade exams from Tamil Nadu will be considered for admission if they give the testimony of having passed their 10th, 11th and 12th grades examination from schools located in Tamil Nadu.
  • Physical fitness: All candidates need to produce a physical fitness certificate at the time of admission obtained from the Government Medical Officer

TNAU admission 2022 counselling session

Candidates who secure eligible rank will be informed through SMS or e-mail. Normally, the ratio of “number of vacant seats (seats to be filled)” to “number of candidates called for a counselling session” is 1: 5. Kindly note that calling for an online counselling session does not guarantee a seat in the university/college.

All shortlisted candidates called for a counselling session will have to pay a non-refundable counselling fee of Rs. 3000/-(Rs. 1500 for candidates belonging to SC/ST/STA categories) through online mode. Those failing to pay the counselling fee will not be allowed to attend the counselling session.

MSc Agriculture admission in Tamil Nadu

MSc agriculture in Tamil Nadu is a full-time two-year (four semesters) course. Admission to this course is done either on the basis of the MSc Agriculture Entrance Test or on the basis of marks scored by the candidate at the qualifying UG Exam.

Eligibility criteria for MSc agriculture admission in Tamil Nadu

  • The applicant must have cleared the qualifying BSc degree in agriculture from a recognised university
  • The applicant must have scored 50% marks in the qualifying exam
  • The applicant must be an Indian citizen
  • The applicant must not have exceeded the maximum age limit i.e. 45 years at the time of admission.
