Diploma in pharmacy

The curriculum and syllabi for the programme are as per the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) the statutory body governing pharmacy profession in India. In this programme students will gain insights into the chemical and physical properties chemical structure and uses of pharmaceutical formulae. The programme encompasses knowledge about the natural medicines which are obtained from plants animals marine and biological sources.

In addition the programme focuses on imparting knowledge about drugs used for different diseases dosage absorption mechanism of action drug action drug interaction adverse reaction. Candidates seeking advance knowledge in the discipline can apply for higher education.

D. Pharm is a practical driven course which is designed to teach the candidates all the basic concepts of pharmaceutical science like:

• Safe and accurate processing of prescriptions
• Dispensing and compounding of medicines
• Accurate record keeping as required under Food and Drug Act
• Purchasing ,Merchandising and Inventory control
• Third party Billing
• Drug approval processes
• Narcotics control
• Pharmaceutical Jurisprudence(laws regulating the profession of pharmacy)
• Regulatory requirements involving testing, screening and clinical trials of drugs
• Computer processing
• Patient provider relationships

• Before starting every admission cycle, the University issues a notification on the University website, notice board and other public domains like newspapers, etc.
• After the last date of application is over, a list of shortlisted students is put up on the University website, notice board, or the students are informed directly about their admission.
• You are eligible to apply even if you're awaiting the results of your qualifying examination(s). Such candidates are offered provisional admissions and have to submit their previous years' mark sheet to confirm that they fall into the eligibility criteria. You must submit your mark sheet before the due date of applying for admissions. Once the provisional admission is approved, the candidate will have one month to provide the mark sheet for the qualifying examination. Subsequently, failing to do so will result in the cancellation of provisional admission.
• If a candidate is granted provisional admission under the above-mentioned conditions and the said candidate fails to meet the eligibility criteria or has failed to obtain the required marks. In that case, the provisional admission is cancelled.
• An application form is rejected for the following reasons:
1. The candidate fails to fulfil the eligibility criteria provided by the University.
2. The admission is cancelled if the candidate fails to enclose the prescribed fee.
3. Provisional admission is cancelled if the application form does not contain the signature of the candidate and their parents/guardian, wherever applicable.
4. The candidate fails to submit the supporting documents in time for admission
• After submitting all the necessary documents and fees, the student will be assigned an enrollment number by the University.
• Rules set by the University for the process of admission will be applicable from time to time.

The career scope of a diploma in pharmacy is very bright and promising. A D.Pharm certificate enables the individual to practice as a pharmacist in India. Thus they get many job opportunities in various institutions as well as at various positions. Or else they can also go for higher education and establish a stronger grip on the subject.

Further Studies

If pharmaceutical studies is what you are passionate about then you can go for a bachelor's degree in pharmacy (B. Pharm). The advantage of doing B.Pharm after D.Pharm is that you become eligible to directly get admission in 2nd year of B.Pharm. Thereafter, you can also pursue postgraduate degrees (M. Pharm). Also another interesting prospect for your career is pursuing a degree in Law after D.Pharma. And then a pharmaceutical company can hire you as a Litigation or IPR (Intellectual property) lawyer.

Job Opportunities

After doing a D.Pharm you can get a job at a drugstore or private or government hospital. Moreover, you can also deliver your services at health clinics, NGOs, community health centres, etc. As there you can interpret the prescriptions correctly thus dispense the right medicines and guide them appropriately. Also many more promising jobs are available at various divisions like Process Control, Manufacturing and Quality Control of a pharmaceutical company. Working as a Medical Representative is a prestigious job as well. Lastly, if you have an entrepreneurial spirit, then you can set up your own business. And that can be opening your own retail pharmacy outlet, starting a wholesale business or a surgical items shop
